Configuration Options
The figure below shows the locations of the
option jumpers and the connectors on the PCBA
(Device Electronics board).
This option may be needed at system-level
integration if the slave drive cannot be detected by the master
drive; i.e., if the interface signals identifying the slave drive
are not present
When a jumper is installed at position E,
the signal level on Signal Connector pin 28 (refer to
figure below) defines the drive as follows:
A low (ground) at pin 28 sets the drive as a Master.
A high (open) at pin 28 sets the drive as a Slave.
When the jumper is omitted at position E, master/slave selection is accomplished via JP1, position D (DRIVE IS MASTER Option).
Most of today's computer systems determine the drive type (cylinders, heads, and sectors per track) automatically and configure themselves at start-up. You may, however, choose to configure your system manually. Manual configuration is a 3-step process:
The drive is ready for operation.
Caution
The mounting screws must be selected so that they do not
penetrate the bottom mounting holes by more than 0.20 inches or
the side mounting holes by more than 0.156 inches. Screws that
are too long may short to PCBA components.
The drive uses industry-standard mounting (see figure below) for
3.5-inch, 1-inch high, disk drives.
Recommended orientation is vertical on either side, or horizontal
with the Device Electronics board down; other mounting
orientations may be used.
No matter what mounting orientation is used, Micropolis specifies
the maximum allowable
RDA casting temperature to be 600C (1400F).
